The Department of State Health Services maintains this webpage, but pursuant to Senate Bill 200, regulatory authority over the County Indigent Health Care Program has transferred to the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as of September 1, 2017.


The County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) was established by the Indigent Health Care and Treatment Act authorized by the 69th Texas Legislature in 1985. CIHCP provides health care services to eligible residents through the counties, hospital districts and public hospitals in Texas.  Programs shall be administered in accordance with Chapter 61, Health And Safety Code, and Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 14.

 

 

NOTE TO CLIENTS: Applications for the County Indigent Health Care Program must be filed at your local office.
