| The Children's Medicaid Loan Repayment Program (CMLRP) provides student loan repayment assistance to physicians and dentists who provide services to children on Medicaid. No person or entity can promise you loan repayment prior to applying and being accepted.
|
Eligibility Requirements
|
Applicants Must:
- Have an outstanding eligible education loan
- Ensure that an application has been received by DSHS by the established deadline
- Hold an unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board or the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners
- If practicing in a specialty or subspecialty, be certified by or be eligible to sit for the applicable specialty or subspecialty board
- Have a Medicaid provider number
- Not, at the time of application or at any time during which the recipient is fulfilling his or her obligation under the Program, be fulfilling another service obligation to provide medical or dental services in the same eligible area or facility
- Fulfill the four-year service obligation in the Children's Medicaid Loan Repayment Program before qualifying for loan repayment through any other state loan repayment program.
- Provide eligible services for four consecutive years and meet the target number of Medicaid visits by children under the age of 21 for each 12-month period as indicated on the following table:

Application Cycles and Deadline
|
Applications are no longer available for state-funded Loan Repayment Programs, including Physician Education Loan Repayment Dental Education Loan Repayment and Children's Medicaid Loan Repayment.

Service Obligation
|
| 4 consecutive years beginning September 1st of the year accepted into the program. |
Priorities for Selection
|
| Providers whose location and discipline increase access to Medicaid services, such as Lagging Counties, HPSAs, and work in Federally Qualified Health Centers and Rural Health Centers will be considered higher priority than providers whose location and discipline do not increase access. |
Approved Specialties
|
| Allopathic or Osteopathic Physician: Any medical specialty or sub-specialty that provides services to Medicaid children.
Dentists:
General and Pediatric

Maximum Annual Repayment Amount
|
Up to a total of $140,000 Year 1 $20 K or $40 K
Year 2 $15 K or $30 K
Year 3 $20 K or $40 K
Year 4 $15 K or $30 K
Annual payment amounts dependent on the number of verified Medicaid visits.
The total annual repayment to one or more eligible lenders or holders shall not exceed the applicant's unpaid loan balance.

Eligible Loans and Tax Liabilities
|
To be eligible for repayment, an education loan must:
- Have been made for undergraduate, graduate, medical or dental education at an accredited institution in the United States
- Not have been made during residency
- Not be from a loan made to oneself from one's own insurance policy or pension plan from the insurance policy or pension plan of a spouse or other relative
- Not have an existing service obligation
- Not be subject to repayment through another student loan repayment or loan forgiveness program
- Not be consolidated with non-education loans or with loans obtained by someone other than the provider applying for loan repayment
The Board shall follow Internal Revenue Service requirements for reporting of loan repayment assistance to physicians during each calendar year

Breach of Contract
|
| Will not receive funds, and will be removed from the program Will not be eligible to apply for National Health Service Corps (NHSC)
Will not be eligible to apply for any other loan repayment programs in Texas
