Long Term Care Nurse Staffing Study

2014 Long Term Care Nurse Staffing Study (LTCNSS)

*The 2014 LTCNSS is now closed.  Reports will be available by December 2014.*

The Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies (TCNWS) has launched the second Long Term Care Nurse Staffing Study (LTCNSS) for Spring of 2014. This research project intends to collect data on the nursing workforce in all licensed residential nursing facilities in Texas. In 2008, TCNWS conducted a similar research project, the results of which are available on our Publications page.

The primary purpose of the LTCNSS is to assess the size and effects of the nursing shortage in Texas' residential nursing facilities. The TCNWS asks administrators in each of the state's licensed residential nursing facilities to complete a brief survey covering their current and future needs for nursing personnel. The information gathered is widely disseminated to stakeholders and policymakers and used to guide the policy recommendations of the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies' Advisory Committee. The data that agencies provide will also be instrumental in developing projections for the number of nurses needed in Texas. Participation in this study is completely voluntary but highly encouraged.

The survey (PDF, 281 KB), its instructions (PDF, 134 KB), and definitions (PDF, 192 KB) are available for review.

Please note that survey responses are strictly confidential and all findings will be reported in aggregate form only. Individual hospital data will not be identified.
