Questions

General Information

  1. How often is the information updated?

The Health Currents system is updated quarterly. But, not all information is updated quarterly. Most data available through the system is released annually. The Updates Information page has a schedule for expected data releases.

  2. Where does CHS get its information?

Our data comes from many sources. A list of sources is available in our Sources document.

  3. How can I request information not on these pages?

While we make great efforts to supply as much data as we can through Health Currents some detailed data is best provided by other pages at CHS. Try the Sources document for more data. You can make a special request by emailing the General Request Email.

  4. When are you going to update your information?

Information about our next series of updates is available on the Updates page.

  5. Can I have all the data from Health Currents?

Send a special request to the General Request Email. There are more than 65,000 pieces of data in the system, so if you are interested in only one table or piece of Health Currents please tell us. We can create a smaller and more manageable file suited to your needs.

Using Health Currents

  1. How can I change the different geographical areas?

Clicking the link [change selection] will display three drop down boxes which correspond to the three geographical comparison columns. Choose the geography you wish then click Submit.

  2. I only selected one area. Why did two extra places show up?

The system will try to assist you in creating comparable geographical areas only after the first selection screen. You cannot remove the two extra geographies, but you can change them by clicking [change selection].

  3. How can I cite Health Currents?

The Sources document contains information on citing the individual data sources.

  4. How can I compare more than three areas (columns)?

The system currently only compares three areas. If you wish to compare more than three you can write or print out data and manually compare the data.

  5. How can I save my selected areas to use later?

The bookmark feature of most browsers will save your selected areas for later use.
