Licensing Board and Data Source: Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) - The TSBDE adopts rules for the regulation of persons wishing to practice as Dentists in Texas.
Information regarding the education requirements, licensure requirements, and responsibilities of Dentists can be found on the website of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners at http://www.tsbde.state.tx.us/.
Note: Traditionally, the tables have included only "primary care dentists," which are defined as general dentists, pediatric dentists, and public health dentists. We refer to these generally as "general dentists." Starting with 2005 data, we are now also posting in a separate table the number of all dentists,* including specialists. These numbers include the primary care/general dentists.
* The following tables include all active and non-federal dentists practicing in Texas. Residents and fellows, teachers, administrators, researchers, federal, military, retired and "not-in-practice" dentists are excluded from the supply totals.

Note: Many agencies that certify or license health professionals collect only a licensee's mailing address for correspondence purposes. The mailing (RESIDENCE) address may be either the work or home address of the licensee. If available, the HPRC county totals for each profession are based on the PRACTICE address from licensure data, and from the mailing/residence address if the practice address is not available. Therefore, when the mailing/residence address is used, the county supply totals may not accurately reflect the actual supply in a county since a professional may live in one county but practice in another.
