The parenthetical numbers on this page represent the number of active RNs employed in nursing and practicing in Texas. Inactive or retired licensed professionals were excluded. RNs were classified as active if the BON licensure renewal file indicated that their license status was “Current,” “Current (Notified for Renewal),” or “Current (Processing Renewal).” RNs with active licenses may or may not be employed in nursing. RNs were classified as working in nursing if they indicated that their employment status was “Employed in Nursing Full Time” or “Employed in Nursing Part Time.” This excludes newly licensed RNs. RNs were classified as working in Texas if they indicated that their primary practice state (or mailing address state if practice address was not available) was Texas.

Data prior to 2007 may be available. Please contact the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies for more information.

NOTE: APRNs are a subset of RNs and are included in the RN tables

* - In 2013, a discrepancy in RN data for Wharton County was identified. Because of this discrepancy, Wharton County RN totals are notably lower than in past years.
