* Data rounded to nearest whole number

Data Source: Texas Medical Board, October 9, 2008.

Includes: active adult, child, addiction, forensic, and geriatric Psychiatrists with Texas practice addresses and a practice type of direct patient care. TMB included categories for addiction, forensic, and geriatric Psychiatrists beginning in 2007. Prior to that, those persons were likely included in the adult psychiatrist category. Only 4 records fell into one of these three new categories in 2008. The mailing address was substituted for those records that did records that did not contain a practice address.

Excludes: federal/military psychiatrists, those involved primarily in research or administration, and residents and fellows.

Of the 1,617 Psychiatrists, 183 were Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, 4 were Pediatric Psychiatrists, 2 were Geriatric Psychiatrists, 1 was an Addiction Psychiatrist, and 1 was a Forensic Psychiatrist.

Note: Psychiatry is a Medical specialty and Psychiatrists are a subset of Direct Patient Care Physicians. Therefore, the Psychiatrists reported in this table are also included in the table for Direct Patient Care Physicians.

Prepared by: Texas Department of State Health Services, Center for Health Statistics, Health Professions Resource Center, 1/23/09.
