Includes: all active physicians with a Texas mailing address and practicing in one of 5 direct patient care specialties: general pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, general internal medicine, family practice and general practice. Excludes: Federal physicians, residents and fellows. Note: 22,966 TX physicians, all specialties & settings; 16,540 Direct Patient Care (11.5% Rural); Primary Care Physicians were 16.3% Rural.

All physicians were categorized by the county of residence. The county was determined based on the zip code.
