Laser Hair Removal (LHR)

The 81st Texas Legislature passed legislation in House Bill 449 that establishes a regulatory program for facilities engaged in hair removal procedures using lasers and intense pulsed light devices (laser hair removal (LHR) devices). The Department of State Health Services (DSHS), specifically the Radiation Control Program in conjunction with the Drugs and Medical Devices Program, is charged with implementing that program. The legislation requires hair removal facilities using LHR devices to be licensed by DSHS unless otherwise exempted. It also requires that certain individuals who perform laser hair removal procedures be certified by DSHS.
