While on inactive status a person shall not provide patient care as that of certified or licensed personnel and may only act as a bystander.  Failure to comply shall be cause for revocation of the inactive status license and may cause denial of future applications for licensure.


  • Inactive Certification to Inactive Licensure Status: Change CURRENT, inactive paramedic certification to inactive licensure.  Submit Inactive Paramedic Licensure Statement form with Paramedic Licensure Renewal Application, application fee and official transcript.  Expect to receive your inactive status letter from us within 3 weeks of mailing your completed package.  Inactive licensure is renewable by repeating this process.
  • Inactive Status: Change CURRENT, ACTIVE license to inactive.  Your inactive license will have the same expiration date as your current license.  Submit Inactive Paramedic Licensure Statement form with Paramedic Licensure Renewal Application and application fee.  Expect to receive your inactive status letter from us within 3 weeks of mailing your completed package.  Inactive licensure is renewable by repeating this process.
  • Inactive Status Relicensure: Renew next license period as inactive.  Submit Inactive Paramedic Licensure Statement form with Paramedic Licensure Renewal Application and application fee.  Include late fee if applying within 90 days after expiration date.  Include double late fee if applying after 90 days of expiration date.  Expect to receive your inactive status letter from us within 3 weeks of mailing your completed package.  The inactive licensure period begins the day after current license expiration and is effective for 4 years.  For candidates not currently licensed, the initial inactive status period is effective for 4 years from the date of issuance.  Inactive licensure is renewable by repeating this process.
  • Inactive Relicensure: Renewing inactive status.  Submit Inactive Paramedic Licensure Statement form with Paramedic Licensure Renewal Application and application fee.  Include late fee if renewing within 90 days after expiration date.  Include double late fee if renewing between 90 days and three years after expiration date.  Expect to receive your inactive status letter from us within 3 weeks of mailing your completed package.  The inactive licensure period begins the day after current license expiration and is effective for 4 years.  For candidates not currently licensed, the initial inactive status period is effective for 4 years from the date of issuance.  Inactive licensure is renewable by repeating this process.


To gain active Licensure from your inactive Licensure status: Submit recertification course certificate, Paramedic Licensure Renewal Application and application fee.  Include late fee if renewing within 90 days after expiration date.  Include double late fee if renewing between 91 days and one year after expiration date.  You must also pass the department-approved  written exam.  All requirements must be completed within one year after the inactive status expiration date or one year from recertification course completion date, which ever occurs first.

After your application package has been submitted and entered into our database, you will be responsible for scheduling your seat assignment for taking the written exam.  You will not be allowed to schedule your exam seat assignment until your application has been processed and you show "Eligible to test" on our database (allow 2-3 weeks from application mail date). After the examination:  If you pass the exam (overall grade of 70 must be achieved), you will receive your renewed active license and ID card. If you fail the exam, you will receive a letter which includes a retest application and instructions for taking a retest.  You should expect to receive your license and ID card within 2-3 weeks of taking the exam.
