Background Information
The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will be conducting an extensive review of the environmental health issues in Midlothian. ATSDR is a federal health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ATSDR serves the public by using the best science, taking responsive public health actions, and providing trusted health information to prevent harmful exposures and diseases related to toxic substances.
ATSDR and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) work in partnership on environment public health issues such as this. Because of community concerns, ATSDR and DSHS have agreed to conduct a series of public health consultations; the over all purpose of which will be to address the concerns raised by the citizens. As part of the health consultation process DSHS will be evaluating previous studies and environmental data to determine whether releases from local industry could have affected the health of the people in Midlothian.
Health concerns that ATSDR and DSHS are addressing were provided by residents who have lived in the Midlothian area from six months to over thirty years. Although there were several people we spoke with who indicated they were concerned about a wide range of environmental and health issues there were others who indicated they do not have any environmental or health concerns related to living in the Midlothian area.
As the agencies review information to respond to concerns within your community, we appreciate your continued interest and input. We welcome comments from a broad range of residents.
If you would like us to add your email address to our list of people wanting notification about our work in the area please send us a message at epitox@dshs.state.tx.us
