Houston Endowment Names New President
Ann B. Stern will become president of Houston Endowment on March 1, following the retirement of Larry Faulkner.
Stern is currently executive vice president of Texas Children’s Hospital. She also serves as a director of the Houston Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
Houston Endowment is a private foundation created in 1937 by Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones. The foundation annually distributes around $75 million to support nonprofit organizations and educational institutions serving the greater Houston area.

ELIGIBILITY: Entities eligible to apply for AHEC Infrastructure Development awards [CFDA:93.824] are public or nonprofit private accredited schools of allopathic medicine and osteopathic medicine and incorporated consortia made up of such schools, or the parent institutions of such schools. In states and territories in which no AHEC program is in operation, an accredited school of nursing is an eligible applicant.
PURPOSE: The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) programs consist of interdisciplinary, community-based, primary care training programs wherein academic and community-based leaders work to improve the distribution, diversity, supply, and quality of health personnel, particularly primary care personnel in the health care services delivery system and more specifically in delivery sites in rural and other underserved areas. This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits applications for a five-year project period for AHEC Infrastructure Development awards and AHEC Point of Service Maintenance and Enhancement awards. Successful applicants will be awarded cooperative agreements to establish and advance statewide or multi-county AHEC programs.

Private Funding Opportunities
International Translational Science Prize

$ AVAILABLE: One $100,000 prize.
ELIGIBILITY: The prize program is open to scientists worldwide. Self-nomination is permitted. University of Michigan scientists are excluded from consideration.
PURPOSE: The A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute at the University of Michigan, which seeks to support medical scientists in developing effective treatments for some of the world's most devastating illnesses, has announced the establishment of the annual Taubman Prize for Excellence in Translational Medical Science.
The new award is designed to recognize work in the crucial field of translational research — research, like that supported by the Taubman Institute, which seeks to transform laboratory discoveries into clinical applications for patients suffering from disease.
The judging criteria include the significance of the nominee's contribution to translating basic research findings into medical practice, and the manner in which the nominee's clinical activities connect to his or her laboratory research.
The award will be presented at the institute's annual symposium, held each fall. The winner will be asked to serve as keynote speaker for the event.

Ruderman Prize in Disability

The program seeks to recognize organizations anywhere in the world that support the foundation's goals of promoting the full inclusion of all persons with disabilities and increasing public awareness of both the contributions and needs of persons with disabilities worldwide.

Texas HIV/AIDS Coalition 2012 Advocacy Conference
