Implementing Routine HIV Testing in Health Care Settings
Did you know that routine HIV testing in health care settings will prevent disease transmission, reduce hospital readmissions and decrease health care costs? In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidelines recommending routine HIV testing for all patients aged 13-64. This course assists health care providers in the implementation of routine HIV testing. The course contains information on testing technology, consent for testing, delivery and reporting of positive results.
Lesson topics:
* Making the case for routine HIV testing.
* Basics of HIV testing.
* Offering an opt-out HIV test.
* Delivering HIV test results.
* Implementing a routine HIV testing program in your practice.
To take the course, register in TRAIN Texas at https://tx.train.org/DesktopModules/eLearning/CourseDetails/CourseDetailsForm.aspx?tabid=62&courseid=1033254. For assistance with TRAIN Texas, contact Cindi Blair or Mary VanWisse at (512) 206-5614.
Free continuing education credits are offered for various disciplines.

Perinatal HIV Prevention is an on-line course covering the guidelines and rules for HIV testing in pregnant women in Texas. The course also offers valuable information concerning perinatal syphilis testing and treatment.
Lesson topics:
* Overview of testing for HIV during pregnancy.
* HIV testing for women in labor and delivery with unknown status.
* Testing and treating the newborn.
* Testing during routine gynecology visits.
* Perinatal syphilis prevention.

Balanced Leadership
SPONSOR: Center for Nonprofit Support
WHEN: October 18, 9 am to noon.
WHERE: 110 Broadway, 2nd Floor Conference Room, (San Antonio, TX).
DESCRIPTION: Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, Lance Armstrong- what do these people have in common? Like all top 1 percent talent, they understood early on that the key to extraordinary success lies in honing their unique abilities rather than being proficient generalists: Jobs focused on his gift for understanding how to make human interaction with technology enjoyable, Winfrey tapped into her ability to connect with people, and Armstrong focused on his ability to listen to his body under extreme stress and push the limits of what he could demand of it. They each took their gifts to new heights by attracting the talent needed to do everything else just as well.
Leaders like that understand that they can excel by specializing, while surrounding themselves with specialists in other organizational areas. This class will assess your individual bias for action and help you identify how you can use that to build high performing teams with the complementary skills you need. Your course registration fee of $120 will include the interpretation of a personal assessment, the cost of the class, and the KOLBEA Index - a professional style index, which you will complete prior to the class and receive a personalized report of your natural assets in taking action.
