FIC Offers Annual Grant Writing Workshop in Austin or Via Webinar to a Computer Near You!
The Funding Information Center (FIC) is sponsoring a free Grants and Proposal Writing Workshop on Thursday, April 12, from 8:30 to 11:30 am. It will be offered at the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), 1100 West 49th Street in Austin, or you may attend the three-hour workshop remotely via webinar.
Designed for beginning grant proposal writers, this class presents a general overview of the grant and funding processes as well as the level of detail required in a successful proposal. Each component of the grant writing process will be addressed, including: documenting the need; identifying the target population; writing measurable objectives; and developing a work plan, an evaluation plan, and dissemination plan. By the end of the class, participants will be able to:
* Identify online resources to search for funding.
* Describe the basic sections of a proposal.
* Identify types of documents necessary to include with a proposal.
* Recognize common mistakes of proposal writers.
The presenter will be Michelle Malizia from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region.
Both the Webinar and participation workshops are free but pre-registration is required.
Registration for the Webinar opens for everyone on Thursday, March 22 at 9 am.
Registration for the in person workshop in Austin opens to the following groups at the following times. "Early" registration is not allowed, so please do not ask!
* DSHS and HHSC Enterprise employees, on Wednesday, March 21 at 9 am.
* All other state agency employees on Wednesday, March 28 at 9 am.
* Registration opens to everyone on Wednesday, April 4 at 9 am.

CPRIT Extends Deadline for Texas Life Sciences Incubator RFA to April 19
Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Commercialization Program has extended the deadline for an open Request for Application (RFA) for Texas Life Sciences Incubator Infrastructure Award through April 19. Please use http://www.cpritgrants.org to submit your application. Incubator awards are expected to be announced at the end of July.
The goal of the Texas Life Sciences Incubator Infrastructure Award is the development or enhancement of incubator organizations that will provide valuable programs and services in Texas to enhance the ability to commercialize innovative, new products for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer and to establish infrastructure that is critical to the development of a robust life sciences industry in Texas.

PURPOSE: The National Library of Medicine (NLM) solicits resource grant applications for projects that will bring useful, usable health information to health disparity populations and the health care providers who care for those populations. Funding for Pilot Orthotic and Prosthetic Research Projects

$ AVAILABLE: For 2012-13, the association is seeking proposals for one-time grants in amounts of up to $15,000 for one year.
ELIGIBILITY: Preference will be given to proposals that address evidence-based clinical application in orthotics and prosthetics.
Please note that in addition to O&P professionals, physicians in training (including interns, residents, and fellows) are eligible to apply, provided that their work is conducted under the preceptorship of a more senior or experienced investigator.
PURPOSE: The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association has announced a Request for Pilot Grant Proposals in orthotic and prosthetic research.
AOPA is interested in funding original pilot research that will lead to larger trials that may qualify for government or other research funding support in the following six areas: microprocessor knee — stumble recovery benefit for non-variable cadence ambulators, and does restricted access for K-1 and K-2 to hydraulic controls adversely impact patient safety?; validity of energy storing feet — AK/BK , clinical appropriateness, and efficacy of dynamic response feet for K-3 patients, and defining appropriate levels of variable cadence; TLSO, reduction of fall, and/or injury related to different types of spinal devices post- surgery; socket interface — methods for measuring proper socket fit and alignment; vacuum-assisted socket suspension systems; and other top-quality clinical O&P topics that are beyond the priorities listed above.

MSM Initiative Community Awards

$ AVAILABLE: Each eligible organization may apply for an award of up to $20,000 to support project-related costs for up to 12 months. Proposals for general operating support will not be considered.
Approximately $140,000 is available in this round of awards; amfAR anticipates funding from seven to eight proposals.
ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants are nonprofit community-based organizations (e.g., NGOs, CBOs) with annual budgets of less than $1 million that are located in one of the eligible low- and middle-income countries in Eastern Europe or Central Asia. Organizations must be comprised of MSM or LGBT community members and/or have established links to MSM/LGBT communities and experience directly involving members of those communities in the development and implementation of programs and activities. Grassroots groups that are not yet formally registered may consider partnering with a sponsor organization that is eligible to receive funding.
PURPOSE: amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, has announced new funding for innovative projects that address HIV/AIDS among gay men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender (TG) individuals in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Grassroots organizations led by or closely linked to MSM/LGBT communities in low- and middle-income countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are encouraged to submit relevant proposals.
