Reporting a Dead Bird

The state is divided into regions. You call your Texas Department of Health Regional Zoonosis Control Office. The regional office you call depends on where in the state you live. Follow this link to find the phone number of the regional office in your area:

Information needed when reporting a dead bird.
Your name, address, phone number, Zip Code, and the location of the dead bird will be collected, so that we can map the location, and can contact you for follow-up if required. We will also ask about the number of dead birds and the species.
Will My Bird Be Tested?

This depends of several factors; your location in the state, the bird's species, its condition, the number of birds from your county already tested, etc. In most cases, testing of birds will be restricted to crows, bluejays, or hawks (for more information about bird species, see the
Bird Identification section of our
links page). The contact person will go over all these requirements with you at the time of your call.
