Per the CDC flu activity level definition, regional means that there is increased influenza-like illness being reported from more than or equal to 2 regions in Texas with lab confirmed influenza (rapid testing, antigen detection, culture, or PCR) in the affected regions.
There are 11 public health regions in Texas. Influenza has been identified in 5 of those regions. Influenza A has been identified in Bell, Brazos, Harris, Nolan, and Smith counties; and undifferentiated flu has been reported from Jefferson and Montgomery counties. So far, the influenza A is the H3 subtype. The strain identification is still pending.
