2003 - 2004 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity level for Texas, week 42, 10/12/03 to 10/18/03 is: LEVEL 8, Widespread.
Per the new CDC flu activity level definitions, widespread means there is increased ILI in at least half of the regions in the state and recent lab confirmed influenza.
There are 11 public health regions in Texas and during week 42, 10/12/03 to 10/18/03, flu has been identified in 7 of those regions. During this reporting period, influenza has been identified in the following counties: Bell, Bexar, Bowie, Brazos, Cameron, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Fort Bend, Harris, Jefferson, Jones, Montgomery, McLennan, Taylor, Travis, and Webb.
The flu reports have been a mixture of rapid test and culture results. Influenza A H3 is the type thus far identified and preliminary information from the CDC is suggestive of a good match for this season's vaccine.
