2003 - 2004 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information

The flu activity level for Texas, week 43, 10/19/03 to 10/25/03, is widespread.

Widespread means there is increased ILI (influenza-like illness) and/or institutional outbreaks (ILI or lab confirmed) in at least half of the regions and recent lab confirmed influenza in the state.

There are 11 public health regions in Texas and during wk 43, influenza/ILI activity has been identified and/or reported from 6 of those regions. Influenza A has been identified in Bell, Bexar, Brazos, Cameron, Harris, McLennan, and Travis counties. Influenza B by rapid test has been reported from Montgomery county. Non-differentiated flu has been reported from Taylor and Walker counties. There have also been school reports of ILI activity in San Jacinto and Gillespie counties.

Influenza A H3 continues to be the predominate type identified in the state.
