2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity level for the week ending March 18, 2006 is widespread. Limited flu activity was reported in 9 regions of the state. Overall, flu activity continues to decrease across the state.
Reports were received from all 11 Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 11. None of the HSRs reported an increase in flu activity. Activity remained about the same in HSRs 7 and 9/10. A decrease in flu activity was reported in HSRs 1, 2/3, 4/5N, and 8. HSR 6/5S reported that the local health departments in their region reported no flu activity; however, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston did culture both influenza A and B during week 11. During week 11, culture confirmed influenza A was identified in Brazos and Harris Counties.
Culture confirmed influenza B was identified in Brazos, Bosque, Lubbock (B Hong Kong/330/2001-like), Harris, and McLennan Counties during week 11.
No institutional outbreaks or school closures were reported.

Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) shows the level of influenza-like illness remains the same as the previous week.
