2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity level for CDC week 42 ending October 22, 2005 is sporadic. This is an increase from the previous week.
Influenza activity was reported in Health Service Regions (HSRs) 2, 3, 6/5S, 7, 8, 9/10, and 11. HSR 1 still reports no flu activity. One region did not report. Four HSRs (2, 3, 7, and 11) report an increased level of activity over the previous week. HSR 8 reports a decrease in activity. There were no reports of culture confirmed influenza in the state for week 42. Currently, there has been only one culture confirmed case of influenza (A) this season. Several counties report positive rapid flu tests for both A and B. HSR 11 reports numerous positive rapid flu tests in several counties throughout the region and attempts are underway to obtain specimens for isolation at the DSHS lab.
Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) indicates a slight decrease in influenza-like illness (ILI) from the previous week (Week 41).
