2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information

The flu activity level for CDC week 44 ending November 5, 2005 is sporadic. Activity has remained the same from the previous week.

Influenza activity was reported in Health Service Regions (HSRs) 2, 3, 6/5S, 7, 8, 9/10, and 11. HSR 1 still reports no flu activity. One region did not report. Four HSRs (2, 3, 7, and 11) report an increased level of activity over the previous week. For a map of Health Service Regions, please visit the following website:

http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/regions/state.shtm

The DSHS lab has confirmed influenza A (subtyping results still pending) in a 4 year-old girl from Corpus Christi. Subtyping results on the isolate from the 46 year-old woman in Temple have shown it to be A/H3N2.

Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) indicates a slight increase in influenza-like illness (ILI) from the previous week (Week 43).
