2005 - 2006 Texas Influenza Surveillance Information
The flu activity level for the week ending December 24, 2005 is regional. Activity continues to increase across the state.
Influenza activity was reported in all 11 Health Service Regions (HSRs) for week 51. HSRs (1, 7, 9, 10, and 11) report an increased level of activity over the previous week. For a map of Health Service Regions, please visit the following website:

During week 51, culture confirmed flu was identified in Bell, Bexar, Dallas, Harris, Nueces, and Starr counties. The DSHS lab confirmed (by culture) influenza A in 8 specimens. Children’s Medical Center in Dallas reported that its laboratory isolated one influenza B during week 51. This is the first report of culture confirmed influenza B in the state so far this season. Influenza A was isolated at Scott and White Laboratory in Temple, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, and Lackland Air Force Base by the Air Force Institute for Operational Health.
Data from the Sentinel Provider Surveillance Network (SPSN) indicates a slight increase in ILI from the previous week.
