Typhus

Rickettsial infections are caused by various bacteria within 6 genera of the order Rickettsiales: RickettsiaOrientiaAnaplasmaEhrlichiaNeoehrlichia, and Neorickettsia (Table 5-04). Rickettsia spp. are classically divided into the spotted fever group (SFG) and the typhus group, although more recently these have been classified into as many as 4 groups. Orientia spp. comprise the scrub typhus group, which has only recently expanded from the single species O. tsutsugamushi.
