Free Child Immunizations
Immunize El Paso will be offering children 5 years and younger an opportunity to be immunized at no cost. The non-profit immunization group understands the traditional barriers to immunization and feels that allowing vaccination at no expense to the parent will potentially increase immunization awareness and compliance. Pertussis Awareness Campaign
Pertussis (whooping cough) is a highly contagious bacterial disease that can be fatal for intants. It creates a sticky, thick mucus in the airways that makes it hrd to breathe, eat and drink. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a tetantus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) booster for everyone 11-64 years of age. Studies show that cases of infant pertussis come from a family member more often than from anyone else. In fact, anyone who spends time with your baby may pass on pertussis. This includes childcare providers, household help, even your friends.
Sounds of pertussis public service announcement will be playing at all El Paso Public health and WIC clinics. Public Service announcements will also be playing on Channel 15 (City Channel) and throughout the week on El Paso’s local NBC affiliate, KTSM. University Medical Center, El paso Public health Clinics and many pediatricians have agreed to distribute brochures, play the Sounds of pertussis PSA, and will be offering Tdap vaccine to adults.

Recall/Reminder Awareness Campaign

Recall/Reminder Awareness Campaign
Through various distribution methods, public and private immunization providers will receive educational materials highlighting the importance of using immunization registries and the value utilizing recall/reminder systems to increase immunization rates. Use of the immunization registry as a recall-reminder tool is an underutilized benefit of the statewide immunization registry. Reminding providers of the value of these features will increase immunization registry compliance as well as childhood immunization rates.

Healthcare Worker Immunization Awareness Campaign
Through various distribution channels, public and private providers will receive educational materials demonstrating the importance of ensuring that all healthcare workers, particularly those with direct patient contact, are completely immunized against vaccine preventable diseases. Employees of physician offices and hospitals may often be exposed to vaccine-preventable diseases and risk exposing their patients to these potential mortal ailments. Ensuring that all healthcare workers are immunized will also better allow for providers to advocate for vaccine they have received themselves.
