Texas Information and Referral Network. Call 2-1-1 for access to information about health and human services in your community, including health, mental health and substance abuse services. The network is also providing 24/7 information regarding evacuation, sheltering and other general information during the disaster. The official hurricane evacuation number is 888-312-4567 (toll free).

Texas Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) Hurricane Katrina information — A collaborative educational network of the Texas Cooperative Extension and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Hurricanes: Health & Safety — Hurricane recovery information and resources for specific groups.

Federal Crisis Hotline. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services toll-free hotline for people in crisis in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255). Callers to the hotline will receive counseling from trained staff at the closest certified crisis center in the network.

DSHS Mental Health and Substance Abuse Helpline. The Helpline serves as an information resource for victims of Katrina needing public mental health and substance abuse services. Call 1-800-252-8154.

  End Stage Renal Disease Network #14 of Texas, 877-886-4435. Regular hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm CDT, Monday-Friday. Staff can assist in locating a dialysis facility and identifying other resources available for assistance (prescriptions, medical, financial).

Transplant Assistance
  United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) Addressing Transplant Needs in Hurricane-Ravaged Area. Transplant candidates and recipients who have relocated because of Hurricane Katrina and need short-term medical care or help transferring to an active transplant programs may call the Patient Services line at 888-894-6361 (toll free). The line is staffed from 7:30 am-4 pm CDT, Monday-Friday, or see the website for contact information for transplant programs.
