A Research Conference will be presented by the St. David's Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research in Underserved Populations at The University of Texas at Austin. The date will be March 28, 2012. Keynote Speaker will be David Lakey, MD, Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services. Online registration is available starting January 4, 2012. The Kidney Health Care Program (KHC) helps people with end-stage renal disease get their health care services. It helps clients with their
- Dialysis treatments
- Access surgery
- Drugs
- Travel to health care visits
- Medicare premiums
Eligibility Summary
The program is available to anyone who
- lives in Texas
- has an income of less than $60,000 per year
- has a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) from a licensed physician
- meets Medicare’s definition of ESRD
- gets regular dialysis treatments OR has received a kidney transplant
- can NOT get Medicaid medical, drug, or travel benefits

Purchased Health Services Unit
The Kidney Health Care Program is part of the Purchased Health Services Unit (PHSU). The unit purchases services through its benefit programs for clients. The other programs in PHSU are the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program and the Hemophilia Assistance Program, and the Glenda Dawson Donate Life - Texas Registry.
