Classroom Activities

Activity 1

Materials Needed:
Small Playground Ball
Vaseline
Glitter

Pass around a ball that is coated with Vaseline and glitter. Tell your students that the gunk on the ball represents germs that they pick up when they touch things like balls or other playground equipment. Afterwards they will definitely want to wash their hands!

Activity 2

Materials Needed: None

Have your students check all the bathrooms in the school to see if they have all the equipment (soap and hand towels) needed to wash their hands. Students could also check their bathrooms at home.

Have them make a list of the materials that are missing and give to custodian. This could be a weekly activity where every Monday a different student checks the bathroom for necessary materials.

Activity 3

Materials Needed: Poster board and markers

Make posters that demonstrate good posture and place around the room. Remind students about posture 4-5 times per day by having them look at the posters. This should increase their awareness about their posture.
Students can make their own posters to put on their fridge at home to remind their parents and friends.

Activity 4

Materials Needed:
Oranges
blindfolds (scarves)
musical instruments
materials that are soft, rough, and hard (fake bunny fur, sand paper, piece of wood).

Have your students sit in a large circle and blind fold each one of them.
Pass around an orange and ask them to guess what it is. Have them tell you the shape and how it feels.
In the center of the circle, cut up the orange. Ask your students if they can sense what it is.
Pass around the wedges of the orange and let them taste it.
Now ask them to guess what it is. Ask them when they figured out what it was. What senses did they use?


Now play some musical instruments and have the students guess what they are.
You can also pass around soft and rough materials and have them guess what they are. Have them tell you what the object feels like. Is it soft, rough, or hard?
Now take off their blindfolds to show them what they've been hearing and feeling.
