Dear NBS Submitter:
Re: Newborn Screening (NBS) HL7 Data Transfer Capability Survey
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Laboratory Services Section’s Newborn Screening Group has begun a project to create two methods that will make submitting your Newborn Screening (NBS) Blood Collection Forms easier:
- Web: Create a new application that will offer web-based on-site NBS data entry and viewing of NBS final test result reports, and
- HL7: Ability to send and receive patient/medical record files electronically in a specific file format. If you are uncertain about this process, please contact your IT staff for further details.
We need ten (10) submitters to volunteer for each method of this project by March 2008 to assist with each method’s testing and implementation. If you would like to participate and have the resources available, please contact us immediately.
We would like for all NBS submitters to complete the enclosed survey no later than July 1, 2008. The survey is also available online at our web site at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/lab/NBSdataTransferSurvey.shtm. For your convenience, paper copies of the completed survey may also be returned to DSHS with your specimen submissions.
This project’s deployment will begin this fall. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Hoffpauir at 1-888-963-7111 ext. 6030 or via email.
If you have IT questions, please contact Tony Banks at 1-888-963-7111 ext. 7319 or via email.
Thank you for your continued support.
