Proposed Rules Were Published in the Texas Register for Public Comment; Comment Period Ended
The proposed rules were published in the September 12, 2008 issue of the Texas Register, which is available at: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/texreg/index.shtml for a 30 day comment period, which ended October 12, 2008.
The department will respond to all stakeholder comments received during the comment period in the adoption preamble of the final rules.

Update - Proposed Massage Therapy Rules
Stakeholder Forum - March 5, 2008
DSHS convened a massage therapy Stakeholders' Forum on March 5, 2008.

As scheduled, the proposed massage therapy rules were considered by the State Health Services Council on January 30, 2008. Several stakeholders provided comments opposing portions of the proposed rules. In particular, there were comments regarding the:
- use of a national examination for state licensure,
- limitation of internship to a maximum of 100 hours, and
- prohibition of unlicensed students to receive compensation, including tuition waivers, for massages.

The Council voted to table the rules to receive additional stakeholder input. The rules will not be published in he Texas Register for public comment in March 2008.
