In February 2014, we announced the winners of our 2013 DSHS MHSA State Hospital Volunteer Recognition Awards for volunteers providing service between January 2013 and December 2013.

We would truly like to thank the Community Leaders throughout Texas who assisted us in recognizing outstanding volunteer service in our state hospitals, by participating on the  judge panel.  Great Appreciation to:

  1. Courtney Compton of Ameriprise Financial in Kerrville
  2. Donna Riley of the Terrell Chamber of Commerce
  3. Raul Benavides of the Big Spring City Council
  4. Esther Cantu of United Way, San Antonio and Bexar County
  5. Tonia Sonnier, Healthcare Operations Management

These judges had the hard task of reviewing and scoring the nominations of so many wonderful volunteers who provided service January 2013 through December 2013.

Please see the document below for a summary of the winners.  The summaries reflect the nomination descriptions.

All 1st and 2nd place winners will receive a recognition award.  This year as we did not receive a nomination for the Youth Service Award, we will recognize 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Community Leader Award category.

Even though we have 1st and 2nd place winners for the Rookie category, all Rookies will be recognized.

All nominees for Service Induction, who have volunteered for at least 15 years, or have given 10,000 hours of service, will receive a recognition award.

As always, we appreciate the time and effort of EVERY volunteer that has ever given to any of our hospitals.  Volunteers assist our hospitals to meet our goals, and volunteers enhance our mission “to improve health and well-being in Texas by providing leadership and services that promote hope, build resilience, and foster recovery”.

Congratulations to the winners!
