BIG SPRING – The Big Spring State Hospital Volunteer Services Council named Stacy Barr as the Council’s April Volunteer of the Month.
Barr’s award seemed fitting for the month of April – the same month she practically lives in the hospital’s Community Relations office – organizing the annual Cars, Stars and Handlebars fundraiser, benefitting the patients at Big Spring State Hospital.
The event, which has become the hospital’s most profitable fund-raiser was introduced in 2007 by Barr and her husband, Mark, who previously attended a similar event in another town. She guaranteed the hospital’s volunteer council that they would sell 600 tickets and she stayed true to her word.
The yearly tradition will continue this Saturday for the 4th annual Cars, Stars & Handlebars at the Big Spring Country Club. Tickets are still available and can be purchased up until 4 p.m. at the Country Club.
Barr also is involved in the hospital’s long-running Valentine’s Day fund-raiser where she lends her voice for singing telegrams.
Alley Kat’s Flowers and Gifts donated a rose bud vase to honor Barr for her accomplishments.
