BIG SPRING - Neva Green is Big Spring State Hospital's August Volunteer of the Month.
Green began volunteering in 2006 after her sister and longtime Chalet volunteer, Doris, asked her to arrange a rack of blouses at the resale shop. From there, her volunteerism grew. Even though she lives in Monahans, she commutes to The Chalet several times a month to assist in the shop.
Green and her sister have made several trips to Fort Worth to pick up items needed for The Chalet Shop, including much-needed clothing racks. Green has designed many changes at The Chalet to better serve the customers.
She received the 2008 Rookie Volunteer of the Year award at Big Spring State Hospital.
Alley Kat Designs will donate a rose bud vase to Green in her honor.
Big Spring State Hospital's Community Relations office chooses a Volunteer of the Month from the hospital's approximately 100 volunteers. Each month, a volunteer who goes above and beyond what is expected is chosen for this recognition.
Big Spring State Hospital is a 200-bed hospital for people with mental illness.
