The Texas Department of State Health Services collects, analyzes and reports data relating to the use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in the state. In addition, an annual report is submitted to the Governor and members of the Texas Legislature.
State laws require that Texas hospitals administering ECT provide information on a quarterly basis to the department on the number of patients receiving treatments, and the type of equipment used. The information is maintained by the Office of the Behavioral Health Medical Director.
The Texas Administrative Code contains the rules pertaining to electroconvulsive therapy in Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 405, Subchapter E.
These documents are referenced in Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 405, Subchapter E.
Please note that the version of Exhibit C provided below has been revised since the document was added to the Texas Administrative Code and is current and the version that should be used if necessary.
Electroconvulsive Therapy Data
Electroconvulsive therapy data is released only once a year in an official report to the Texas Governor. After release of the report, the data is posted below. To receive a notice by email when this page is updated, please subscribe to the ECT Reports announcement list.
NOTE: The previously posted (and submitted) “All Facilities: Summary” and “Individual Facility Summary” for Texas West Oaks Hospital and Zale Lipshy University Hospital incorrectly listed the age category of 2 patients as “17 and under”. These revised documents posted here correctly list 0 patients as “17 and under”, with 1 additional patient being 60 years of age (45-64 age category) and the other being 19 years of age (18-24 age category).
