| What: |
The Texas Department of State Health Services is launching a “Flu Fighters
Tour” to teach elementary school students how to protect themselves from flu.
The tour features two martial artists showing how to “fight” the flu using
symbolic kung fu-style moves and music. This high-energy interactive
presentation includes an animated video and educational activities. Tour stops
will include some 30 elementary schools across Texas. |
| When: |
Jan. 19 to Feb. 5 (see schedule)
|
| Where: |
Various elementary school locations (see schedule)
|
| Why: |
The goal of the tour is to teach children how to help prevent the spread of
flu. Traditional peak flu season is January and February. The H1N1 flu virus is
still circulating and vaccine supply is now plentiful. Texas health officials
encourage people to get vaccinated against H1N1 flu and practice healthy habits
such as frequent hand washing and staying home when sick. Children younger than
10 need two doses of the H1N1 vaccine.

| Materials: |
B-roll and media kits will be available at the events. Downloadable Flu
Fighters materials are available in English and Spanish at www.texasflu.org. All public elementary
schools will receive resource copies of the Flu Fighters videos and activity
books. |
| Note: |
News media must check in at school office before attending the event.
