A scientific symposium will include distinguished Alzheimer’s
disease researchers in Texas currently working on methods to improve early
diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. The meeting will
also provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on the draft of the
first Texas State Plan on Alzheimer’s disease. |

| WHY: |
Alzheimer’s disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the
United States. Texas ranks third in the nation (behind California and Florida)
in the number of estimated Alzheimer’s disease cases and in the number of
Alzheimer’s disease deaths. It is estimated that 340,000 Texans will be living
with Alzheimer’s disease by the end of 2010.
The Texas Council on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, the Texas
Alzheimer’s Disease Program, the Alzheimer’s Associations, and others in Texas
have developed a plan to address Alzheimer’s disease in
Texas.
