Welcome to the home page of Texas Board of Orthotics and Prosthetics. The website will inform you about obtaining and renewing a license to practice as a prosthetist and/or orthotist, a prosthetist and/or orthotist assistant, a prosthetic and/or orthotic technician, or a prosthetic and/or orthotic student in Texas, and obtaining and renewing accreditation for a prosthetic and/or orthotic facility.
Program Activities include:
- Review, update, and adopt rules for the regulation of prosthetic and orthotic professionals and facilities in Texas.
- Review (and approve or deny) applications for licensure, registration, and facility accreditation.
- Receive and process complaints lodged against prosthetic and orthotic professionals, assistants, technicians, and facilities, and those alleged to be practicing without a license.
- Produce and distribute informative publications for consumers and the public.

Definition of Orthotics Ad Hoc Committee - Discussion Notice
The Definition of Orthotics and Prosthetics Ad Hoc Committee has completed its first round of device designations. The accompanying list designates devices requiring a license to be fit to patients (Red List), devices not requiring any level of licensure to be fit to patients (Blue List), or add-on items that are associated with other items (Yellow List).
The draft lists provided are not yet finalized. The public will be allowed to discuss the classification of any item prior to adoption. Color designations may change as a result of discussions with the Committee or Board.

The document below is used by DSHS Inspectors to thoroughly inspect for facility compliance with Board statute and rules. The Board encourages all managing staff of Texas O&P facilities to use this as a guide for self-evaluation and review before and after our inspection process. Meeting Dates and Application Deadlines
Applications for licensure must be submitted and all application deficiencies must be resolved by the application deadline date. Late or deficient applications will be held until the next available Board meeting.

Examination Deadlines
Licensed students who wish to take the state examination must notify Board staff by the notification deadlines. A student who contact the American Board of Certification without first notifying Board staff risk having their passing scores declared inadmissible.
