Component Description:
Provide school nutrition programs that adhere to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Texas Nutrition Policy to achieve nutrition integrity. School nutrition services offer students a variety of nutritious and appealing meals that accommodate the health and dietary needs of all students. They can also serve as a learning laboratory that mirrors classroom nutrition education, and a resource for nutrition-related community services. Qualified child nutrition professionals provide these services.
Nutrition Policies:
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), Food and Nutrition Division, has authority over the child nutrition program for Texas public schools as a supplement to federal policies. In March of 2004, TDA issued the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy to promote a healthier school environment. To access the school nutrition policy, go to:
