Funding for School-based Health Centers and Sample RFP

School-based health centers in Texas, like most of them across the country, are funded through multiple sources including, state and/or federal funds, private foundation and third-party revenues.

In 1993, the Texas Department of Health, now the Texas Department of State Health Services began funding communities to establish school-based health centers.  DSHS has since supported the establishment of 40 school-based health centers.

Funding is available every fiscal year for the start-up and expansion of school-based health centers.  Funding is available for up to three years and is contingent on state appropriations.  The fiscal cycle is from September 1 to August 31.  The Request for Proposals application is usually available in February with awards posted by June 1st.
