Who Will Pay for My Baby’s Hearing Test?

• Medicaid will pay for your newborn’s hearing screening (NBHS) test, any necessary follow-up tests, and evaluation by an audiologist, if you and your child are eligible for medical assistance as determined by State law. • NBHS is a covered service through the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). For eligibility and enrollment information, call TexCare at 1-800-647-6558.
• If your child is covered under your private health insurance plan, then she is covered for her newborn hearing screening test and any necessary diagnostic follow-up care related to the screening test from birth through the date she is 24 months old. Benefits for the NBHS test and any necessary follow-up may be subject to co-payment and co-insurance, but the NBHS test is exempt from a deductible or dollar limit.
