Reinventing Vital Statistics for Tomorrow’s Challenges
Technology is the key to our success and literally surrounds us from the time of our birth until our death and throughout our lives. It is the standard for the future – we need to embrace it! (And hopefully manage to catch up with our 3rd - graders!) So as we advance into the future, it is critical that we take on strong leadership roles to guide ourselves and our constituents to a successful end. Make plans today to attend the 55th Annual Conference hosted by the Texas Vital Statistics Unit and co-sponsored by the Texas Public Health Association.* This Year's Keynote Speaker and Opening Session Speaker![]() We are pleased to announce that this year's Annual Conference Keynote Speaker is Dr. Aliya Hussaini. Dr. Aliya Hussaini is the grant officer, health portfolio, at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. Dr. Hussaini is a physician who completed her undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College, where she earned a BA in Biology and Economics. She completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago before pursuing clinical training in Pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident. Following her clinical training, Dr. Hussaini completed the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a MS in Health Policy Research. In her most recent position, Dr. Hussaini worked at the Texas Department of State Health Services as the Manager of Program and Policy Development for the Purchased Health Services Unit, which includes the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program, Kidney Health Care Program, Hemophilia Assistance Program, and Glenda Dawson Donate Life-Texas Registry, as well as the Assistant Medical Director for the CSHCN Services Program.
Continuing EducationThis year's conference has been approved for15 Continuing Education Units from the Texas Funeral Services Commission. We have also applied for 15 CEU from AHIMA, 17.5 hours for County and District Clerks, and 14.24 hours from the Texas Justice Court Training Center. Group Code: 55th Vital Statistics Additional Hotal InformationIf you are unable to obtain a room at the Renaissance we have arranged for an conference group rate at the following hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Room rate: $115 Name of Event: Vital Statistics Conference Individual attendees will make reservations directly with central reservations at (800) 431-1577 or direct with the hotel at (512) 502-8100. Hotel will also provide an online reservation link for guests to make group room reservations online. Registration Information:Enclose the registration form (150K pdf) along with check or money order payable to "Texas Public Health Association" and mail to: Texas Public Health Association/Vital Statistics Conference Registration prior to November 20th is $150. After November 20th, registration is $180 for all registrations whether mailed or faxed as well as for on-site registration. Lunch can only be guaranteed for registrations with payments received by November 20th.
