Reinventing Vital Statistics for Tomorrow’s Challenges

55th Annual Conference Program Cover

Technology is the key to our success and literally surrounds us from the time of our birth until our death and throughout our lives. It is the standard for the future – we need to embrace it! (And hopefully manage to catch up with our 3rd - graders!) So as we advance into the future, it is critical that we take on strong leadership roles to guide ourselves and our constituents to a successful end. Make plans today to attend the 55th Annual Conference hosted by the Texas Vital Statistics Unit and co-sponsored by the Texas Public Health Association.*

This Year's Keynote Speaker and Opening Session Speaker

A Picture of Dr. Hussaini

We are pleased to announce that this year's Annual Conference Keynote Speaker is Dr. Aliya Hussaini. Dr. Aliya Hussaini is the grant officer, health portfolio, at the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. Dr. Hussaini is a physician who completed her undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College, where she earned a BA in Biology and Economics. She completed medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago before pursuing clinical training in Pediatrics at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident.

Following her clinical training, Dr. Hussaini completed the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a MS in Health Policy Research. In her most recent position, Dr. Hussaini worked at the Texas Department of State Health Services as the Manager of Program and Policy Development for the Purchased Health Services Unit, which includes the Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program, Kidney Health Care Program, Hemophilia Assistance Program, and Glenda Dawson Donate Life-Texas Registry, as well as the Assistant Medical Director for the CSHCN Services Program.

Suzie HumphreysIn addition to Dr. Hussaini, our opening session will feature motivation speaker Suzie Humphreys. Suzie Humphreys background is as varied as her audience; from administrative secretary to television talk show host, to 20 years in radio. She has hobnobbed with movie stars and politicians interviewed the great and the “near” great. She has made hundreds of commercials, done musical comedy and motion pictures. She has been fired, been broke, been disappointed, been a petrified expectant mother at 40 years old and lived her life with a passion for learning not only how to be better, but to see things differently.

Suzie Humphreys received one of the longest standing ovations on record from the national speakers association when she spoke to 2,500 of her peers at their convention in Palm Springs, California. Last year at their national convention, she received the Council of Peers Award of Excellence and was inducted into The Speaker Hall of Fame. In 2004 Suzie was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame

Get ready to laugh live and learn with Suzie Humphreys as she presents “I can do that”.
