The 2009 Annual Vital Statistics Conference was held from December 9th thru the 11th at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin, Texas. This year’s theme was “Reinventing Vital Statistics for Tomorrow’s Challenges”. The conference brought together a variety of professionals from across the state. Local registrars, county and district clerks, funeral homes, hospitals and birthing centers attended, participating in conference sessions on topics relevant to birth, death and marriage records.

Our key note speaker was Dr. Aliya Hussaini from the Dell Foundation who presented on health issues related to childhood obesity. The attendees were offered sessions on topics related to vital records such as TER registration, identity fraud and AOP certification to name a few. During the luncheon many of our attendees received awards for their performance as vital record participants. The Vital Statistics Unit presented Five Star Awards to local registrars, funeral homes and hospitals / birthing centers. Most of the local registrars met the criteria for the Exemplary Five Star award.

ImmTrac and The Attorney Generals Office also gave out awards for excellence. The Department of State Health Services, Vital Statistics Unit and the Texas Public Health Association sponsored the conference and are proud to work with our local, state and federal agencies in continuing the standard of excellence and commitment provided by our partners in vital records.
