Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Program
The Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Program provides technical assistance,
training and consultation on the development of policy and environmental
change strategies to decrease risk factors for heart disease and stroke
and increase chances for people in Texas to establish a heart and stroke
healthy lifestyle. Targeted sites include worksites, schools, food establishments,
communities and health care settings.
Recognition Programs
- Heart and Stroke Healthy City Recognition
Program: Recognizes cities
that maintain policies, ordinances, facilities and capacities that support
a heart and stroke health environment. Texas cities are evaluated on
a schedule determined by the Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease
and Stroke. Check Out the 2009 Heart & Stroke Healthy City Recognition Awardees. Metro and small-size cities were assessed this year. Austin, El Paso,
Houston,
Fort Worth,
San Antonio,
Dallas,
Huntsville,
and Victoria were recognized. A new toolkit, Heart and Stroke Healthy City Recognition Program Toolkit – 2010, is now available.
- Texas Cardiovascular Health Promotion Awards: Recognizes community-based programs, schools, worksites, and health care entities that promote innovative and effective programs and policies for prevention and/or awareness of CVD and/or stroke in Texas communities. Texas Plan to Reduce Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke
The Texas Council on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke presents its strategic plan for cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention
and treatment. The plan focuses on four key strategies: (1) Surveillance,
Data and Outcome Management, (2) Health Education and Outreach, (3) Community
Policy and Environmental Changes, and (4) Clinical Prevention and Treatment
Services.
