The Department of State Health Services Cardiovascular Health and Wellness (DSHS CHW) Program, in consultation with the DSHS Office of EMS and in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Stroke Association (ASA) is developing Stroke Systems of Care. The initiative will impact timely care to patients, reduce the burden of stroke and improve survival outcomes. DSHS is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to facilitate development of systems of care for heart disease and stroke.
Four components of the systems being addressed in this initiative:
- Development of Stroke Committees in Regional Advisory Councils (RAC)
- Development of Stroke Transport Protocols
- Emergency Medical Services Training
- Development of Stroke Centers Within Hospitals
