WIC Nutrition - Lactation Counseling and Problem Solving

Objective: Participants will be able to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills in providing breastfeeding management and support.

* Because of the interactive and participatory nature of the course it is limited to 30 participants.

* Pre-requisite: Principles of Lactation Management is mandatory (no more than three years prior to this class or be an IBCLC).

Course Description: This course is designed for health professionals who counsel breastfeeding mothers, and would like to improve problem-solving skills. The emphasis is in critical thinking and the helping process. It is an intermediate level course and is activity oriented. Course content is reviewed on a regular basis by the authors in accordance with the Standards of Practice set forth by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). 

NOTE: This class will be comprised of small groups interacting and working through individual case studies throughout both days. Please be prepared to join in to the discussions and share your ideas with others in your assigned group. While anyone may attend, this class is more suitable for staff who teach breastfeeding classes or provide individual counseling to breastfeeding moms.
