It is important to use the appropriate file for your specific application to ensure the best quality reproduction. The guidelines in this document will help you determine which file to use.
Print vs. Screen Use
To ensure best quality, you must use the logo file designed for your end-use.
- Materials that are produced primarily for distribution on paper require a high-resolution file that is too large for electronic use. Using a low-resolution file for printed materials will result in a blurry, low-quality reproduction.
- Materials that are produced primarily for electronic distribution or for viewing on a computer screen, such as PowerPoint presentations and web pages, require a smaller, lower resolution file. Using a high-resolution file for electronic materials will result in larger file sizes and slower rendering of the image
Sizing
- Most of the electronic files are RASTER art files, saved in PhotoShop or Fireworks. They include: .TIF .JPG .GIF
- Electronic files that are RASTER art may be REDUCED in some cases, but NOT ENLARGED. Therefore, it is important that you download the appropriately sized file for your specific application.
- If you need to resize a logo for online use, it is best to resize a non-compressed file such as .PSD or .TIF and then save it as a .JPG or .GIF.
- VECTOR art files are created in Adobe Illustrator as .EPS files. (NOTE: Not all EPS files are vector files; if you enlarge an EPS file and the sharpness deteriorates, it is not a VECTOR file and should not be enlarged.) Electronic files that are VECTOR art may be resized freely without losing quality.
Use of the new logo is subject to the following conditions:
- The logo must be used in whole with no additions, deletions, substitutions or modifications.
- Logos must be readabe. It should never be sized so small that this condition can't be met.
- Logos must not be altered in any way, except for overall sizing.
- It is not permitted to "recreate" logo art. Original electronic files are readily available and should be used at all times.
- Electronic files may be reduced, but not enlarged with the exception of vector files (.eps files).
- Logos may not be used within or as a part of any other symbol or mark.
- When used on print materials, Logos must conform to the general Print Usage Guidelines.
- Logos used on the website or other electronic service must conform to the general Online Usage Guidelines.
- The full color version of the logo must always appear against a white background surrounded by a minimum margin of white space. A minimum amount of space must be left between the logo and any other object such as type, other logos, photography, borders, edges, and so on.
- Logos must not be encircled with a line or rule.
- Logos must never be "superimposed" on another image or background in a manner that allows the background image to "show through" or replace the white areas.
- Original art files should be supplied to vendors per their specifications. They are not to recreate any logo art.
Print Usage Guidelines
General
- Logos must not be altered in any way, except for overall sizing.
- A logo must be used in whole with no additions, deletions, substitutions or modifications. It may not be taken apart; changed in proportion, compressed, extended, slanted, distorted, animated, or have the relationship of combined elements changed.
- A logo should never be tight to the page or screen edge, or to additional type, patterns or other graphic design elements. A minimum amount of space is required between the logo and another element.
- It is not permitted to "recreate" logo art. Only original files should be used. Always use the correct file for your application.
Color
- The logo is designed to be printed using 4-color process.
- In one-color offset printing, the logo may be reproduced in most colors, although exceptionally bright ink colors are not recommended. When reproducing in one color, be sure to use the Greyscale source file.
- Whenever possible, logos should be printed against a white background.
- In limited circumstances the logo may be used in reverse (light color on dark background) but only using the one color (no screen) version. Legibility must not be compromised.
Print Reproduction QualityCare should be taken to ensure the quality of all printed material bearing the WIC logo.
- To preserve the integrity of the logo, all print reproductions must be made from high-resolution files available for download.
