Expected Numbers of Cancer Cases and Deaths, Texas, 2012

Loading...

Estimated numbers of 2012 cancer cases and deaths for all primary cancer sites are available statewide, by Health Service Region, and for Texas counties with at least 100,000 population. Estimated cases are calculated by applying 2004-2008 Texas age-, sex-, and race/ethnic-specific cancer incidence rates to the corresponding 2012 Texas population. California incidence rates were used for melanoma, breast and prostate cancers. California rates were used because of similarity between California and Texas populations and more complete California Cancer Registry case ascertainment for these cancer sites. Estimated numbers of cancer deaths were calculated by applying 2007-2008 Texas age-, sex-, and race/ethnic-specific mortality rates to the corresponding 2012 Texas population.

The sum of male and female expected numbers may not always equal the total due to rounding. Texas 2012 population projections were provided by the Center for Health Statistics, Texas Department of State Health Services, and were current as of November, 2011.
