Dr. Kirk Calhoun has been president of U. T. Health Science Center at Tyler since November 2002. He is a member of the National Public Health and Hospital Institute, National Association of Public Hospitals Executive Committee, Texas Emerging Technology Advisory Committee, and the American and Texas Medical associations. He is also a member of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Physician Executives. He is active locally with the Smith County Medical Society and a board member of the Tyler Economic Development Council. He is a past board member of the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, East Texas Leadership Council, and Vision 2010 Task Force.
Dr. Calhoun, a native of Chicago, earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.D. from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He served an internship and residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University and Medical Center in Evanston, Illinois, as well as a fellowship in clinical nephrology, hypertension, and metabolism at the University of Chicago. His term will expire February 1, 2017.
