Dyslexia Therapist and Dyslexia Practitioner Licensing Program - Apply for a New License - Apply Online


Do not use the links and forms below if you are already a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist or a Licensed Dyslexia Practitioner and need to renew. This web page is for new applicants only. If you are unsure of the qualifications required for this type of license, please see the rules, 25 TAC Chapter 140, Subchapter K.

Dyslexia Therapist and Dyslexia Practitioner applicants may now apply for their initial licenses through the new Regulatory Services Online Licensing System. Select the link below to begin the online initial application process. When using the online service, initial license application fees must be paid using a major credit card.

Once you submit an online application, your fees and information will be processed automatically and routed electronically to the Dyslexia Therapist and Dyslexia Practitioner Licensing Program.

You should therefore postmark the other required documents and/or forms listed below on or shortly after the date you submit the online application, to avoid a delay in processing time.

The department recommends that you attach a copy of the "Receipt Page" (the final page you are able to print out when you complete the online application) to any documents you submit to our office.

Additional Information Required of Applicants for Dyslexia Therapist or Dyslexia Practitioner License:

1. Original college transcript verifying highest degree earned.  Copies of transcripts will not be accepted.

2. Copy of current Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) certification card, if applicable.  If you are not currently certified by ALTA, please see step 3. 

3. Proof of completion of a training program accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and proof of passing the required examination, if applicable.  If you are currently certified by ALTA, you do not need to submit training program and examination information.  If your training program is not accredited by IMSLEC, it must be reviewed and approved by DSHS and the Dyslexia Licensing Advisory Committee before you may be approved for licensure. In order to be reviewed, the training program must submit any and all relevant documentation verifying that the training program and its instructors meet the requirements of section §140.584 of the rules.
