Tax Transcript and Certificate of Non-Filing Instructions

To request an Income Tax Transcript Request or Proof of Non-Filing Request, visit the IRS website.

If you are a first timer user, click “Get Started”. If you are a returning user, enter your user ID and click “Login.”

Step 1: Enter the person’s first name, last name, and email address.

Step 2: Check email and enter security code. Security code expires in 30 minutes.

Step 3: Enter social security number, date of birth, filing status (single, head of household, etc.), and address.

Step 4: Complete confirmation of credit.

Step 5: The system will ask what the tax transcript is for, select either “income verification” or “health care.” This will direct you to “return transcript.”

Step 6: Select the most recent year and then print the transcript. The form is created as a PDF. This means the information could be saved electronically by the agency.
 

UPDATE: The IRS system for requesting tax return transcripts online is currently unavailable. Tax return transcripts can be requested by mail by completing Form 4506-T or by calling 800-908-9946.
