TB Reporting Laws

Laws Affecting TB

Several Texas laws (Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapters 81 and 89) require specific information regarding notifiable conditions be provided to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Health care providers, hospitals, laboratories, schools, and others are required to report patients who are suspected of having a notifiable condition (Texas Administrative Code Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 97).

Report a case of tuberculosis disease within one working day and an occurrence of latent tuberculosis infection within one week to the local health authority. You may also call 1-800-705-8868 to reach the nearest local health department or regional health service area.

Additional information is available on case definitions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

See the Tuberculosis Forms page for all TB reporting Forms.
